Yesterday saw the launch of the trailer for the highly anticipated “Tudor Come Home – The Movie.”
A momentous occasion, both for fans of the “Tudor Daca Ne Auzi (Tudor If You Can Hear Us)” Saga, as well as for new-comers to the beloved franchise, the trailer presents the background for the greatest search in all of post-modern quack-history, the search for Tudor.
Featuring countless participants from Britain and Romania, the film will go beyond the initial scope of proving friendship, effectively setting the stage for the most significant demonstration of solidarity since the Romanian Miners’ Upheavals of the 90s.
Surely, such an epic cause deserves an equally (if not more) epic trailer, and Tudor Come Home – The Movie trailer delivers. Whether you’re a participant, a fan, or even a stranger to the cause, this piece of work will move you and make you wonder.
But even this feat of amateur cinematography started out as a simple idea.
Taking you from “a few seconds of black screen announcing the future launch of the movie”, to the epic action-adventure that just might overshadow the feature film, here is…
The Making Of: “Tudor Come Home” – The Trailer
Day One

And so it began… an innocent idea, to help promote the aforementioned indie blockbuster-to-be.
However, Alin did not yet realise the extent of the repercussions that would soon stem from sharing his idea with a female; namely me.

It was the perfect soundtrack for the story, and by Elvis, I was going to find it! So I started more or less random searches on YouTube, until finally, about half an hour into it, I managed to unearth the song that was (and still is) haunting my brain (damn the obsessive nature of the thing).
After finding the right music, the ideas started pouring in and things began getting complicated.
Revelation

Inspiration
Checking out a few well-known action movie trailers, including The Bourne Identity trailer, we spawned a a bunch of new ideas, most notably that you can’t have an action trailer without a cheesy story supporting it, and you can’t have a cheesy story without bombastic visual elements.
In light of these discoveries, we set about composing a short, simple story describing the background and scope of the movie, and ended up penning down a riveting tale of friendship, mystery and all-out madness, riding on the aural blasts of the soundtrack.
The first day of work ended at 2:45:21 AM*, almost eleven hours after Inception.
Eleven hours of sharing ideas, story development, searching for the perfect imagery to showcase the cause, striving to set it perfectly to the tempo of the song, trial and error, and photoshopping later, we were only one minute into the finished product. I dare say we made amateurism professional.
Day Two

Grind
Our second day of work saw more complications arising, as we moved into a completely different kind of musical atmosphere for the latter part of the song.
Being forced to adapt our approach to the action flow, we went back and forth through ideas for a while, in order to uncover appropriate ways of mirroring musical tension in the visual part of the trailer.
The story became more detailed, the visuals more alert, and the execution even more complicated, as we ploughed through arising issues. Some ideas fell through, while others became integral parts of our most ambitious project to date.
It was 9:04:21 PM* when we finally agreed it was done. After nine hours of brain-racking on our second day of work, the trailer was ready to hit the big time, and be appreciated by new and old fans alike, and judging from the reviews it lives up to the hype; we’re certainly proud of it.
