You’re from where?

This is a quick picture lesson for the geographically challenged, or just for those that have never heard of this place. Not for the easily offended, though, because I think it will sound rather patronizing.

We begin our insightful journey with a look at the world map. That blue blotch over there is the continent Europe.

As we zoom in on the continent, we see a fish-shaped blotch. That is Romania, as highlighted for your convenience. Notice that it is not part of Africa or Asia, but, in fact, Europe:

My “hometown” lies on the fish-shaped blotch. If we zoom in, we can see where it is. Notice it’s called Bucharest and not Budapest. Budapest is not the capital of all Eastern-European countries, my dear foreigners. So the city is about here:

That’s about as much global positioning as I’m going to give you. Suffice it to say that I’m one of about 2 million people living in the orange blotch:
